5. Where can I park? Is parking free? There is ample FREE parking located directly in front of the Center in parking Lot I. Handicap parking is available.
6. What is the Center approved swimwear? Traditional swimwear is required. All babies must wear an approved swim diaper that fits tightly around the legs. (Example: Huggies, Little Swimmers) Patrons are welcome to wear rash guards, wetsuits and other swim apparel. Patrons are NOT allowed to wear jeans, cut-off jean shorts, t-shirts and cotton clothing including tank-tops in the water. No noodles, toys, personal flotation devices, or swimsuits with built-in flotation devices.
7. Does the Center provide Locker rooms? Yes, the Center has men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, lockers, changing area and restrooms. There are smaller men’s and women’s restrooms available for parents/caretakers with children of the opposite sex under the age of 3.
8. How does the Center protect patron safety? The RBAC lifeguard staff includes 42 members who have successfully completed the 31-hour lifeguard certification, CPR certification and First Aid Responder Training. Multiple guards constantly monitor the pools and facilities.

7. How many gallons of water are in the Center’s three pools? There are 1,600,000 gallons of water in our three pools. The pump and filtering system operates 24/7, providing the safest environment possible for our aquatic programs.

5. Is parking available? Parking is available for day use by patrons of the Center. The lot closes at 10:00 p.m. Use of the parking lot outside normal operating hours requires a separate permit from the City of Pasadena. In addition, productions interested in using the parking lot for staging are required to obtain a permit from the city of Pasadena. The City can be contacted at 626.744.7195.

3. How much does a Water Fitness class cost? Daily passes are $9 - $10 (depending on the class) and monthly passes are $60 per month. Senior Water Aerobics has a monthly fee of $30.

6. How deep is the Recreational Pool? The shallow end is 3.6ft. deep. At the deepest point, the dive well is 17ft. deep.

9. Do I need to know how to swim in order to participate? No. You are provided flotation devices for the deep water classes so that you are suspended in the water as you exercise. However please inform your instructor of your inability to swim.
1. What is aquatic therapy?Aquatic therapy is the safest form of rehabilitation, especially for injuries that affect weight-bearing, because it takes place in the buoyancy of water and thereby removes impact and trauma from weight-bearing joints. Combined with traditional land-based physical therapy, aquatic therapy offers the quickest way to return to normal daily activities.
2. What if I can't swim? Swimming ability is not required. We can use a variety of flotation devices for support in deep and/or shallow water. Instructors work closely with patrons until they feel comfortable in the water.
3. What if I use a wheelchair? The pool is accessible by the Hoyer Lift (hydraulic chair) or stairs with two rails.
4. What if I just had or am planning to have surgery? Pool therapy fits perfectly into the well-designed postsurgical therapy program because water provides the safest place for protected, gradual and guided motion that does not overly stress the joint or site of repair. Patients can start pool therapy as soon as they are cleared by their physician and the incision site has healed. Patients, who use the therapy pool program as "prehab," prior to surgery, are more likely to return to full function much more quickly than those who have been inactive prior to surgery. By gaining strength and flexibility prior to surgery, they return to the pool post-surgery already knowing how to do the exercises and are more likely to regain function and range of motion.
5. Why do I need an evaluation for independent use in the therapy pool? The evaluation is used to ensure that patrons who use the therapy pool are familiar with the pool environment, are appropriate for aquatic exercise, and are water safe. During the evaluation, the instructor will teach aquatic exercises that have been specifically selected to fit the individual participant’s needs. A handout with the exercises will be made and laminated for the participant’s independent use poolside.
6. What classes are available in the Therapy Pool? 7. Do I need to take a class to use the Therapy Pool? Patrons are welcome to do independent exercises in the Therapy Pool. Independent exercises allow patrons to engage in exercises specifically targeted to their needs. Trained caregivers may assist participants, free of charge.
8. Does the Center have instructors who know how to work with my special needs child? We have two physical therapists on staff as well as instructors who have years of experience working with children with special needs. Many of our instructors are working towards Masters Degrees in Child Development.
9. How much are special needs private lessons? Special needs private lessons are $37 per half hour or $77 per hour.
10. Do you have group lessons? Currently we do not have group lessons for special needs children. However, we are in the process of developing a social skills/play group in the water. If you are interested, please contact us. We do offer semi-private lessons. The children must be the same swim level to register.
11. I have a typical child in group lessons; can you schedule my special needs child for a private lesson at the same time? It is possible but not always an option. As long as we have an instructor available, we will do everything we can to accommodate this request.
12. Do you have to know all the swim strokes to be on Stingrays or Mantarays? What are the requirements to be on Stingrays or Mantarays? You do not have to know all the strokes but you do need to be able to understand and follow directions of the coaches. Stingrays Requirements: Must be 8-17 years of age and able to swim 25 yards independently. Free evaluation scheduled by appointment only. Mantarays Requirements: Must be 18 years or older, water safe and capable of swimming 25 yards. Free evaluation scheduled by appointment only.

1. What does the Fitness Department offer? The Fitness department offers Yoga, Boot Camp, CrossFit, and Personal Training.
2. Does the Center have a weight room? Yes, the Center’s weight room is equipped with over 25 state-of-the-art machines including: treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, a shoulder press, an arm curl, a lap pull down, cable crossover and more, for a well-balanced and successful work-out. Access to the Weight Room is included in your monthly membership. You must get a wrist band at the front desk before using the weight room. The weight room is located at the south-west corner of the Center and is open during regular Center hours. Individuals over 15 years are welcome.

10. How much is a Yoga class? All classes are $15 for non members and $10 for those who hold a membership, enrolled in boot camp, or CrossFit, or have a child enrolled in an after school sport: swim team, dive, water polo, etc. If you have any questions, please contact us.
11. Where are the Yoga classes located? Yoga classes take place upstairs in the newly renovated Arroyo Room. Sometimes, if the weather is nice, Yoga will take place outside around the Center.
1. What is the age requirement to participate in Rose Bowl Water Polo Club (RBWPC)? The Water Polo team accepts boys and girls of all ages. Currently Water Polo has players from 6-18 years of age. Players under 8 must have either club swimming experience or be very strong swimmers.
2. Does RBWPC teach players how to swim? Players over the age of 10 should already be able to swim. Players that are 10 and under must know how to breathe in the water and swim 25 yards unassisted. We offer developmental swim sessions 3 times per week for players 10 and under in order to help them learn the specific strokes – butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, and freestyle.
3. Does a prospective team member have to know how to play water polo before joining the team? New players 15 and older are required to have played at least one season of water polo (unless excused by the Head Coach), must know how to eggbeater and (as a general guideline) have the ability to swim 10x100 on a 1 minute 30 second interval for boys or 10x100 on 1 minute 1:50. For players 14 and younger, all players are welcome to join and will be taught the fundamentals of the game. In fact, most players have no experience playing when they come to us, but most have swimming background.
4. Where do competitions take place? Most of our competitions take place in Orange County, the Pomona area, and the Riverside area. Occasionally we compete in locations north to Santa Barbara and south to San Diego. Once a year we may have a travel trip that takes us out of the state or north to San Francisco. We host events at the aquatics center about once per quarter for the boys and the girls.
5. When are the RBWPC games? Most games take place in a tournament format on the Saturdays and Sundays. There are usually 2-3 games per day.
6. How do I register for the Water Polo team? There are three important steps for Rose Bowl Water Polo Club Registration. When you are registered with all three entities you will be "completely registered".
Step 1: Sign-up with USA Water Polo as a Gold athlete (as we compete in national tournaments) (annual membership) This is done online at the USAWP site at www.usawaterpolo.com or click here.
Step 2: Sign-up with Rose Bowl Water Polo Club (seasonal membership) This is done online only. The Booster Club does not accept cash or checks. Click here to register online.

Only players who have completed all three steps of registration will be allowed to practice and participate in tournaments.
7. How much does Rose Bowl Water Polo Club cost? The yearly fee for USAWP Gold membership is $75. The seasonal RBWPC Membership Fee:

8. Do you have seasons for RBWPC or is the program year-round? Rose Bowl Water Polo Club is a year round program. Players may register at any time. Quarterly booster payments are paid on the following schedule: Fall: (September - December) Winter: (December – February) Spring: (February – May) Summer: (May – August) Please note actual dates may vary.
9. How do I know what Age Group my player is in? USA Water Polo determines age group eligibility based on the athlete’s age as of August 1st each year. For example, if a player turns 19 on August 2, he or she will be eligible to play 18U for JO’s. Certain tournaments will be grade, rather than year-based. In this case, the USAWP age rules will not apply. All Age Group questions should be directed to your Age Group Representative listed below.
1. Who is eligible for Swim Team programs? We have programs for all ages. Our Pre-competitive team (Rose Buds) is open for individuals 4-17 years of age that are capable of swimming freestyle and backstroke, and who have been introduced to butterfly and breaststroke (but they do not have to know how to do the strokes well). Our Competitive Team is open for swimmers 5 years of age and older, who are able to swim all four competitive strokes legally. Adults (18 and over) are invited to join our Masters Swim Team. 2. Do I have to try-out for the Swim team? Yes, swimmers must try-out before they join the team. Try-outs for the Pre-Competitive and Competitive Teams are Monday-Friday from 3:00 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. or contact us to schedule a time.
3. How much does it cost to join the Swim Team? Fees will be determined by the try-out and team placement, but will have the following general costs: Competitive Team – Monthly Membership Fee to RBAC, Semi-Annual Family Commitment to Booster Club, and Annual Registration to USA Swimming. Any additional cost is based on your schedules, number of meets one participates in, etc. Pre-Competitive Team – Session Membership Fee to RBAC; Sessions are 8 weeks ($215 or $185).
1. What is the Masters Swim Team schedule? Competitive Swim Group - Monday to Friday – Mornings: 5:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m., Afternoons: 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., Evenings: 6:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. and Saturday 6:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. Swim Meet Group - Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
2. How many swimmers attend a typical workout? The numbers average about 30 in the morning, 25 in the afternoon, and 20 at night.
3. How much does it cost to join the Masters Swim Team? Monthly pass: $70.00, Daily pass: $10.00, quarterly cost: $195.00, annual cost $720.00. There is also an annual fee of $42 for insurance that is paid to the US Masters Association by clicking here. Please contact Coach Chad before registering.
4. I’m not that fast, is there a beginner lane? Yes, there is a lane available for every Masters swimmer level regardless of their speed.
5. What are the facilities like at the Center? The facilities at the Center are world-class in quality and management. (The United States Olympic Swim Team trained here prior to departing for the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.) The Center has two outdoor 50-meter Olympic pools. The competition (West) pool can be configured in 25 yard (width) or 50 meter (length) configuration. The recreation (East) pool is always in the 25 yard (width) configuration.
6. Does the Masters Swim Team include weight training? There is a weight room available for patron use but the Masters Swim Team does not offer a guided weight training regimen.
7. My schedule is unpredictable. Does that affect my eligibility to join the Masters Swim Team? Everyone understands the demands imposed by family and professional work schedules and, thus, you do not have to start and stop in unison with the team. However, the value of participating with a team will provide you with the greatest benefit in your swimming efforts. Ideally, you should start your workout with the group and finish as much of the workout as possible.
8. Does the Masters Swim Team attend organized events? Rose Bowl Masters is a Nationally ranked team in the United States Masters Swimming organization. We compete at local meets throughout the year as well as attending our Local Zone Championships 3 times a year for Short Course Yards, Long Course Meters and Short Course Meters. Attending these competitions or Meets are not required of the team members but it is expected that everyone participates to help the team to grow and become recognized as an international titan. Team members have competed in meets that include FINA Masters World Championships, USA Olympic Trials, USMS Nationals. 1. What are the Dive lesson requirements and is there a minimum age? Divers need to be able to swim and be comfortable in the deep end of the pool. There is no minimum age, but at least 5 years old is preferred.

4. What is the Novice Team? The Novice Team, designed for divers 18 years of age or younger, is the first competitive level of diving. Lessons divers who have fulfilled the necessary requirements will be invited into the Novice Team. The Novice Team competes in local meets sanctioned by US Diving and AAU.
5. What is the Junior Olympic Team? The Junior Olympic (J.O.) Team is for divers who have successfully trained and competed well in Novice Team. The J.O. Team competes in local meets, as well as Regional, Zone and National competitions.
6. Who is eligible for the Masters Team? Masters diving is technically for adults over the age of 21, but high school and college divers also practice with our team. Most major competitions are structured in five year brackets: 21-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, etc. Smaller competitions combine group of competitors from various age groups.
7. When are try-outs for the Novice, Junior Olympic or Masters Team? There are no try-outs for Novice, Junior Olympic or Masters Teams. Divers will have to graduate from the lessons program in order to join the team. 3. What are the requirements for Rose Buds, Swim Team? Children must be 5 – 12 years old, and have the ability to swim 25 yards freestyle or backstroke without stopping. Breaststroke and Butterfly experience is suggested. Try-outs are required.
4. What are the requirements for the Water Polo Team? Children must be 6 at least years old, have the ability to swim 25 yards unassisted, and know how to breathe in the water. Water Polo offers developmental swim sessions for children under 10 years old.
5. What are the requirements for the Dive Team? Divers need to be able to swim and be comfortable in the deep end of the pool. There is no minimum age, but at least 5 years old is preferred.
6. Should we register for group or private lessons? Group lessons are recommended rather than private lessons because the majority of children learn better in group settings. Private lessons are aimed for those swimmers who learn better in a one-on-one setting.
7. How do I register for group swim lessons? Registrations can be done over the phone, online or in person at the RBAC. We cannot accept registrations via fax or email.

11. What is Pre-Registration and how do I qualify? Pre-Registration occurs 3 days prior to the open Registration date. It is for those who are enrolled in the current session. Pre-Registration provides an opportunity to select classes before they open to the general public.
12. At what age should my child start taking lessons? We offer lessons for children 6 months and older. The earlier a child is introduced to the water, the more comfortable he/she is likely to be in the water in the future.
13. How long will it take for my child to learn to swim? All swimmers learn at their own pace. The more consistent the lessons are, the faster children will learn. Parents who use positive encouragement, especially if children are hesitant or show fear of the water, are key in helping their children learn-to-swim.
14. How many times a week should my child swim? Children should swim two or more times a week. Consistency is key! The more opportunities your children have to practice, the faster they will learn.
15. Should we take a break or swim year round? It is best to swim year round. If children continue to swim year-round, they will have the best opportunity to build their swimming skills. If they take a break, their swimming skills will most likely regress.
16. What should I do for the first day or lessons? On the first day of class, please arrive 10 minutes early. A Waiver of Liability must be signed BEFORE the swimmer(s) enter the water.
17. Do parents stay during the lessons? Yes. Parents must remain on the pool deck or in the Center during their children’s entire swim lesson.
18. What is the swim lesson cancellation policy? In the event a swimmer is not able to finish the session, once the lesson department is notified, the remaining days of the session will be credited toward their RBAC account. If there is a doctor's note with dates the swimmer must be out of the water, then an RBAC credit will be issued toward the swimmer’s RBAC account.
19. Does the Center offer credits or refunds? Credits are offered if the swimmer cannot finish out the session, or if there is a doctor's note. The doctor's note must be on letterhead with the swimmer’s name and dates they cannot be in the water. There is a credit only, no refund policy.
20. Do you offer make-up lessons? Make-up lessons are not offered during the Spring and Summer Sessions. For more information, please call 626.564.0330 x410.

Click here to register online now. Every individual participating in camp must have a signed waiver on file at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. Anyone that registered online is required to download the supplemental waiver.
4. What is the refund policy? Make up days and/or credits will be given in lieu of refunds for days missed. In order to receive a credit, you must email the camp at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to the end of the day missed. Credits will not be given after that time. This includes switching dates for any reason, as well as sick and make-up days.
5. Can I create my own schedule? Yes! You can create your own schedule. There is no minimum number of days per week or weeks per summer.
6. What does tuition cover? Everything! Campers are not allowed to bring money to camp, except on the Knotts Berry Farm, Angel Baseball Game trips.
7. Do I need additional money for field trips? All entrance fees are included in the tuition, and campers are not allowed to bring money on field trips, except on the Knott’s Berry Farm, Angel Baseball Game trips.
8. What are the facilities like at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center? The Center has two Olympic size swimming pools, access to beautiful Brookside Park, shaded arts and crafts area, air-conditioned rooms and access to baseball fields, soccer fields, football fields, a jungle gym and a shaded picnic area.
9. What are the swim and dive lessons like? Swim and dive lessons are offered daily. RBAC Swim and Dive instructors will teach the lessons and campers will be placed into small groups by ability and age.
10. Does my child have to go on field trips? All of the field trips are optional. There will be a choice of activities on site for those who do not wish to attend the field trips. The cost of the field trips is included in the camp registration fee.
11. Does camp provide lunch or snack? No. Children are required to bring their own food and drinks to camp. However, on special occasions, we have barbecue celebrations for the campers.
12. Who provides transportation on the field trips? For the past ten years, we have contracted bus transportation with Eagle Transportation, which services many Pasadena private schools.
13. What if my child does not want to participate in a certain activity? The campers choose what they want to do each hour from our selection of activities including swimming and field trips.
14. What should my child bring to camp? Every child should bring lunch, snack, drinks, a swimsuit, towel and sun screen. The camp does not provide food or drink except on special days.
15. What shouldn’t my child bring to camp? Do not send your child to camp with money (except for field trips to Angel Game and Knotts Berry Farm)--your camp fees cover everything. Also, children should not bring toys, games, playing cards, electronics devices. These items seem to get misplaced or broken, and the children get upset.
16. Drop off/ Pick up. Campers need to be dropped off between 8:00 - 8:45 am and picked up between 3:00 - 3:15 pm. All campers not picked up by 3:15 pm will be signed in for the After Camp program. Please send a note if someone other than the parents is picking up the children.
17. After Camp. Campers will sign into the After Camp program upon arrival at 3:15 pm. Parents must sign them out when they are picked up between 3:15 - 6:00 pm. Campers not picked up by 6:00 pm will be charged $1.00 per minute for the first 15 minutes and $2.00 per minute after 6:15 pm.
18. Camp T-shirts. T-shirts will be handed out on the camper’s first day. The T-shirts are to be worn on field trip days. Additional T-shirts may be purchased for $10.00 each.

1. Are all Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED and Standard First Aid classes mandatory? Yes! The American Red Cross requires that all participants complete all of the coursework in order to be certified.
2. How long is the Lifeguard Training course? The RBAC courses exceed the Red Cross minimum to allow extra time for practice and in-depth discussion, in addition to proper evaluation and correction of participants in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid skills.

1. How important are donations and grants? Where do my donations and other contributions go? Donations are essential to building and maintaining the non-profit RBAC facility and providing the high level of scholarship support upon which so many children, families and seniors depend. In fact, in the 1980s, individuals and foundations contributed almost $5 million to build the two Olympic pools, locker rooms, children’s pool and hydrotherapy spas. In 2004, again through the generosity and leadership of donors, a third pool, the Therapy Pool was built and opened to provide healing warm water exercise for those with special needs. In 2008, donations and grants supported the renovation of the upstairs multi-purpose room with a kitchen. This room makes it possible to offer many land-based exercise classes as well as a meeting room for community organizations. Donors have supported the development of the Scholarship Fund and the Therapy Pool Children’s Scholarship Fund, making it possible for all members of our diverse communities to participate. Last year, the Center provided over $325,000 in scholarship assistance. In sum, the Center strives to provide the most cost-effective and affordable services possible. We depend upon donations for 8%-10% of the operating budget.

3. What has the Center accomplished with my donations? As the only aquatics center of its kind in the southern California area, open to the public daily, the Center has grown to welcome over 250,000 guests annually. Patrons participate in over 100 hours of programming in both aquatic and land-based activities every week. People of all ages turn to the Center for instruction, training, competition, therapy and recreation. The Center strives to ensure that every child in the Pasadena area learns to swim and take part in aquatic sports. Since 1990, thousands of at-risk third grade students and their families have participated in free, learn-to-swim lessons. No matter how busy the Center becomes, we always look forward to seeing the yellow school buses from Pasadena Unified School District arrive, filled with excited students embarking on lessons that will forever change their lives. Learning to swim develops skills for a lifetime of health and recreation. It also contributes to success in the classroom and in life, i.e., listening carefully, following directions, concentrating on tasks, setting and achieving goals. Students learn how to use a locker room and keep track of their belongings.

5. Is my donation tax-deductible? The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving all members of our diverse communities, regardless of their ability to pay. Donations including gifts, securities, real estate, and bequests are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Please check with your tax accountant to determine how the tax laws will apply to your specific situation.

7. May I decide how my donation is spent? Yes. Donors may support special programs or projects including capital campaigns, the Scholarship Fund, and the Stingrays Special Needs Swim Team. Donors are welcome to support programs directed to children, families or seniors. Others may request that their grants help achieve matching challenge grants and help meet current needs. General donations will be applied to the Annual Campaigns. The Center depends upon the Annual Campaign to raise 8 to 10% of the operating budget.
8. May I volunteer at the Center? Yes. Volunteers often help organize and facilitate special events. 3. Where does Family Swim take place? Family Swim in held in the shallow end (3.6ft. deep) of the Recreational Pool, which is heated to 86 degrees.
4. Can Family Swim patrons use the diving boards? Patrons cannot access the diving boards during Family Swim.

6. When will I be informed if I’ve been approved? Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors once a month, typically on the 15th of each month. 7. How long will the scholarship last? Scholarships expire at different times depending on the program and applicants must reapply annually.

• Therapy Pool varies depending on the program you choose. Classes are 2 sessions and annual pass is 1 full year. All Therapy pool scholarships are a 50% scholarship only.
• Summer Camp is 2 full weeks (Monday - Friday) your choice of which weeks you pick.
Each approved applicant will receive a limit of 2 full weeks at the rate of $50 per week per applicant. Full payment and completed camp registration forms are due with completed scholarship application. If you are not approved, we will return your payment check to you.
• Lap Swim Membership is 1 full year
8. Can more than one child in the family be approved for a scholarship? Yes, every person in the family can be approved for a different program. HOWEVER, each person is limited to just 1 scholarship program at a time.
9. What proof of income forms are acceptable? • Copy of a Proof of Participation in the California FREE school lunch program
• Copy of your last year’s Income Tax Return
• Copy of any "Notice of Action" for any government or state public assistance program (such as cash aid, food stamps or WIC program)
